David specialises in all aspects of family law, including matrimonial finance, separation, pre- and post-nuptial agreements and a host of private law children issues. He is highly experienced at advising on high net worth divorce matters with an international element. Many of his cases involve trust structures, complex children issues and jurisdictional challenges. He regularly appears as an advocate at all levels of the court system and has acted in many significant reported and unreported cases before the Family Division of the Grand Court.
David has exceptional knowledge and experience of advising and representing clients in relation to child relocation issues. He has successfully acted for parents securing permission for them to relocate with their children to the United Arab Emirates, the U.S.A. and Australia, to name a few. He has also assisted parents who have been successful in opposing child relocation applications.
Before joining Cayman Family Law, David was a partner and the head of family law at another firm in the Cayman Islands. He is also admitted as a lawyer (non-practising) in Northern Ireland and England and Wales. He has developed a very strong practice and reputation in the field of family law over the past 15 years.
As a certified Civil Court Mediator, David can also act as a mediator in private law family disputes. His depth of knowledge and experience in the area of family law gives him unique insight in these situations which can assist parties in resolving disputes outside of court.
David is a member of the Cayman Islands Association of Mediators and Arbitrators, and the Treasurer of the Cayman Islands Family Law Bar Association. He has delivered training on the Children Act (2012 Revision) to various government agencies and individuals involved in child protection issues in Cayman. He is also an Associate member of Resolution who are committed to promoting a constructive approach to family issues.
